MANCHESTER UNITED are confident they will sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil at the end of the season by paying just £8million
Manchester United are determined to sign Ozil from Arsenal with the Germany international likely to leave the Emirates Stadium.
Jose Mourinho knows all about the player from his time as Real Madrid manager and thinks a reunion would benefit both parties.
Barcelona are also interested but the Catalan giants’ priority remains Philippe Coutinho, despite Liverpool snubbing three bids in the summer.
And the Daily Star say Manchester United now feel they will land their man – but not until the end of the season.
Arsenal are wary of selling Ozil to a direct rival given how similar deals have been received in recent years.
Gunners fans were furious when the club allowed Robin van Persie to move to Old Trafford in 2012.
And the exits of the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy to Manchester City also rankled with the supporters.
As a result, Mourinho knows a deal for Ozil will be hard to strike in the New Year.
And the Daily Star say the 54-year-old is now willing to wait until the summer instead.
It is said United are willing to pay a signing-on fee of just £8m as they deem Ozil to be a bargain in today’s market.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old struck the winner as Arsenal beat Newcastle 1-0 yesterday.
And Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was full of praise after the game.
“It was important for him to get that goal because 99 per cent of the time he gives those chances to other people,” he said.
“He deserved it.”
